Absolute Linux is a light-weight Linux distribution based on Slackware Linux. It includes several utilities that make configuration and maintenance easier and it has many common desktop and Internet applications installed and configured with tight integration of menus, applications and MIME types.
Absolute Linux comes in two different versions. One allows you to preview the distribution (Live ISO), the other to install it on your system (Installer).
Absolute Linux is designed to be a fast "get out the way" desktop. It uses the Ice Window Manager (IceWM) and has a well integrated collection of the best lightweight software to give you most of the things the "big desktops" give you, but only at a much, much faster pace. It is design to work on slower hardware, this makes a perfect distribution to replace your old windows or to run in a virtual machine.
It comes with the latest, most popular Open Source software and it offers a package compatibility with Slackware minor version (ex. Absolute 12.2 -> Slackware-12.2), with a few exceptions: kernel packages, KDE-libs, madwifi, ndiswrapper, svga-helper, a/etc.
Absolute Linux has been terminated December 2024. This marks our end of support for this project
The team wants to thank everyone that has given this distribution a try. Although if someone wants to take the distribution over, the developer (Paul Sherman) would be happy to freely pass it on.
