Scratch is the world's largest coding community for children. Its simple and intuitive visual interface allow its users to create digital stories, games, and animations.
It aims to introduce young children to computational thinking and problem solving skills; creative teaching and learning; self-expression and collaboration; and equity in computing.
Scratch is designed for children of ages from 8 to 16, but can be used anyone who desire to learn the principles of coding. Millions of people have created Scratch projects in a wide variety of settings, including homes, schools, museums, libraries, and community centers.
It is being used in more than 200 different countries and territories and is available in more than 70 languages. You can add or improve a translation, see the translation page .
As they are learning to code, students are also learning multiple disciplines such as math, computer science, language arts, social studies. Scratch Foundation has developed over the years resources for educators
Mitch Resnick, the founder of Scratch, explains in his Ted Talk why the ability to code computer programs is an important part of literacy in today's society. As users learn to code while using Scratch, they learn important solving problems strategies, designing projects, and how to communicate ideas.
